Make This September the Start of Something Big

Summer's over, it's time to get back to work. Why not make some changes to your writing life that could
pay dividends by this time next year? Here are a few September-related tips to get you that much closer
to your writing goals, whatever they may be!
Stock up on writing supplies. With all the back-to-school specials, now's the time to buy that new
laptop, printer, or even pens and notebooks.
Escape the routine. Try a new genre, new writing method, or new writing location.
Push the envelope. Up the stakes for your characters and your story.
Test the waters. Send out queries, enter contests, join a critique group and submit something for input.
Enroll. Take a writing course, join a writer's group, or attend an author's talk.
Make time for your writing. Find spare hours in your day to research, write, and revise.
Be your own biggest fan. If you're not enthusiastic about your work, no one else will be.
Edit and forget it. You know that chapter you've been staring at since April? Do what you can with it
and move on.
Read. The only way to really know your market is to discover what's out there.
